Nobody knows what animal you play as in Biomutant, but one thing is for sure, you can’t swim very well. Once you get into water, your character starts flailing and will eventually drown if you don’t get back to land quickly. With that said, there are still a couple of useful tricks and things to know regarding how to swim in Biomutant.
How to Swim in Biomutant
Your childhood memories quickly teach you that you’re not a great swimmer and won’t last long in water. This is why it’s important to watch your Ki Energy when swimming because it drains while in the water. Once it drains completely, you’ll drown and need to reload a previous save. Nobody wants to lose progress to something stupid like water in Biomutant.
More often than not, you’ll want to avoid crossing directly through rivers if possible. Especially if you’re not building a character with high Ki Energy. Instead, you can look for a bridge or rock path to get across. And later on, when you get further into the Biomutant storyline, you’ll unlock a unique mount. While you can only use it in certain regions, it functions as essentially a boat for exploring larger bodies of water.
Aside from using the Googlide to cruise the water, you can also use normal mounts to try and hop across narrow lakes. Just be careful to not get caught without any Ki Energy. Once you start jumping while in water, you’ll lose a good chunk of Ki Energy quickly. This can be a death sentence if you don’t keep an eye on that bar. Or if you have a height advantage, you can use the Automaton glider to fly across rivers as well.
How to Unlock the Googlide
The Googlide is essentially a jet ski that you’ll get from Goop at the Subnautica Station. If you continue following the main questline, you’ll eventually run into Goop naturally. He’ll send you on a few quests before you can use the Googlide for exploring deeper into Biomutant’s world. You’ll need this mount specifically for beating the eastern Worldeater, Porky Puff.
This is your best bet for exploring large areas of Biomutant that are mostly water. Such as the eastern side of the map. Just be careful of green murky water which requires a stronger engine to get through. With that said, you can still maneuver around certain areas that have green water. Also, keep an eye out for buoys that you can interact with to get some quick loot. You’ll need all the gear and materials you can get if you want to craft new gear.
