If you’re grinding through the slow early game of Hogwarts Legacy, you may find yourself stuck with gear that you’re not sure where to sell. This can be a pain when you’re exploring for loot and can’t hold anymore due to your limited inventory size. Fortunately, once you may some progress in the story you’ll learn how to sell gear for money.
The frustrating part about limited inventory in Hogwarts Legacy is that you can’t instantly sell gear wherever you are. You’ll need to travel out of the way or use a Floo Flame to fast travel somewhere. And this can easily throw off your pacing when you’re running through main quests. Especially if the next step in your story feels urgent.
Where to Sell Gear in Hogwarts Legacy
Making Your Way to Hogsmeade
Outside of unlocking eye chests for gold, selling gear will be a major source of money as well. First, you’ll need to progress far enough in the story that you can leave Hogwarts. You’ll eventually get a quest to go visit Hogsmeade where you can check out a number of different shops. Even though certain ones like Spintwitches shop for brooms will require further progress too.
After reaching Hogsmeade, I recommend grabbing each of the three Floo Flames so you can easily fast travel here later on. Whether you do or not, you can enter one of several shops to sell your items. But you’ll likely need to run through some dialogue as the shopowner introduces themselves to you.
Any shop NPC that has an icon with a stack of coins is one you can sell your gear to. With that said, this doesn’t include items like ingredients if you’re wondering how to sell resources. Such as Ashwinder Eggs, Dittany Leaves, etc. But, certain shops will sell those ingredients if you need them for potions or upgrading gear. Here are some of the shops where you can sell gear in Hogsmeade:
- Gladrags Wizardwear
- J. Pippin’s Potions
- Tomes and Scrolls
- The Magic Neep
- Dogweed and Deathcap
Where Else Can You Sell Gear in Hogwarts Legacy?
If you’re not near Hogsmeade and don’t feel like fast traveling over there, you do have a few other options for how to sell gear. There are a ton of small villages spread throughout Hogwarts Legacy known as hamlets. These aren’t guaranteed to have a shop you can sell items to, but many do.
As previously mentioned, keep an eye out for the stack of coins icon when you check out a hamlet. For those of you that have gotten your first broom, I like to do a quick fly-through to check out new hamlets. This works well for spotting shops, Floo Flames, and even using Revelio to notice chests.
Unlike Hogsmeade, hamlets don’t have a visible shop icon on the world map. This can make it tougher to figure out what hamlets have a shop, unfortunately. So oftentimes, you’re still better off just fast traveling to Hogsmeade so long as you have a Floo Flame nearby to travel back.
If you’re stuck in the middle of a quest and can’t leave to find a shop, there is still one other option. You can open up your inventory, hover over an item, and hold C for those on PC to destroy it. This will permanently get rid of the item even though you can still change your appearance to that clothing type. It’s important to mention this won’t give you any money.
The one good thing about selling your gear in Hogwarts Legacy is that shops are open regardless of the time of day. So if you need to sell items and it’s night-time, don’t worry, you can still find a shop available. Regardless of whether you’re at Hogsmeade or a small hamlet with a shop.

That’s all there is to this Hogwarts Legacy on where to sell gear for money. It’s worth mentioning that different gear rarities will sell for different amounts. So if you’re thinking about destroying an item to make room, try to get rid of cheaper ones instead.
