Finding out what to do with old followers in Cult of the Lamb can be a little confusing. Your followers will eventually become Elders as they reach old age. Unfortunately, I’ve done some testing and there doesn’t seem to be a set age or length of time in your cult that they become one.
The general age range that followers become Elders seems to be from 40 to 50. With that said, it feels like members can pass within that exact same window. Or perhaps a little further into their 50s if you get lucky. Assuming you haven’t taken advantage of a certain necklace gift.
What to Do With Old Followers in Cult of the Lamb
There are two different ways you can get Elders in your cult with the obvious one already mentioned above. At a certain age, they become an Elder and wear a white robe instead of a red one. Or you may get a mission from one of your followers to accept Elders that have been banished.
This can be annoying if you don’t want to reject the mission and take the faith loss from doing so. Especially since old followers can’t work and your interactions with them are limited as well. However, certain doctrines from Crown Offerings can give you faith if you have old followers. Therefore, it really depends on your playstyle and what you do with old followers.
Fortunately, there is a trick to delay the time it takes for your cult members to become an Elder. When you leave your camp to go on Crusade runs, you can come across a variety of necklaces with useful buffs. The Skull Necklace doubles the length of a follower’s lifetime. Personally, I enjoy gifting this necklace and the Moon Necklace as well. This one makes it so they no longer have to sleep.
Regardless, even though your old followers become mostly useless near the end, you can still bring them back once they pass. As you unlock new doctrines, you’ll come across a decision in the Afterlife section. You can pick a doctrine to unlock the Ritual of Resurrection to revive dead followers.
The fun advantage of this ritual is that you can keep a follower around forever. This may just sound like a neat way to keep your favorite around, but it’s better than that. You can continue leveling them up as much as you want. Also, certain guides on other sites recommend not resurrecting an Elder but there isn’t a reason not to.
The theory I’ve seen is that they won’t live much longer since they’re an Elder, but that’s not true. When you resurrect an Elder, they return as a normal cult member who can work and do everything as usual again. I’ve done some testing and still have a member alive after 16 days from the ritual.
That’s all there is to this Cult of the Lamb guide on what to do with old followers. Unfortunately, there isn’t really much you can do unless you want to sacrifice them. Otherwise, you’re stuck waiting for them to pass to open up a new member slot.
