One of the best new classes in Dead Rails revolves around learning how to mine rocks. The developer added a mining mechanic in the March 28 update that makes it easy to earn money early on. Continue reading our Roblox guide to learn how it works!
Some of the questions we’ll tackle in this guide include mining with a shovel, the different types of rocks, and what to do with those extra junk rocks.
How to Mine Rocks in Dead Rails
Can You Mine With a Shovel?
The first question many of you will probably have is if you can mine with a shovel. Fortunately, yes you can, it just takes a really long time if you do it alone. Using a shovel requires hitting a rock 40 times before it’ll break. Otherwise, you can get the Miner class where they can break rocks in two hits using their pickaxe.
Interestingly enough, only the pickaxe matters and not the class. Therefore, if someone drops their pickaxe, anyone can use it to mine rocks in Dead Rails. This is a neat trick if you want to dedicate a different player to mining rocks. And if you’re thinking about using Dynamite on rocks, it doesn’t work.
What Rocks Can You Mine?
Dead Rails is filled with rocks across the desert but there are plenty more that you can’t mine than can. For example, if you notice a large tan rock, this isn’t mineable. You’ll instead need to look for gray rocks that have little minerals popping out. At the time of publishing this guide, there are three types currently: Gold, Silver, Coal.
Upon mining any of those three, a nugget will pop out that you can then sell or use for fueling your train. It’s important to note that the amount of money you’ll get per Gold or Silver nugget varies. This is because each rock you mine will pop out a different size nugget. You can find some estimates in our guide for all item prices in Dead Rails.
What to Do With Rocks?
You may notice after breaking your first rock that you’ll get a couple of small rocks as well. Unfortunately, these don’t seem to serve a purpose in Dead Rails. You can’t sell them, you can’t use them as fuel, but you can weld them to your train. They’re not great for barricading or blocking windows, but perhaps you’ll find a use.
That’s all there is to this quick guide on how to mine rocks in Dead Rails. Fortunately, the Miner class is one of the cheaper classes you can buy using Bonds. I’d definitely recommend grabbing them if you want an early advantage.
