New players going into the hardcore looter shooter Marauders may be wondering if there is a map or how to open a map. When you’re in a rush to get the most valuable loot and extract safely without losing, knowing where you are is important. Especially if you’re someone familiar with the many maps in Escape from Tarkov.
While Escape from Tarkov has extremely basic maps as items in-game, players have designed their own maps to help everyone out. This is a bit tougher with Marauders when you have to remember the exact same spot that you entered from. Otherwise, you won’t be able to extract and get out with your loot. This can make it frustrating if you’re new to the game or just don’t want to rely on remembering every little detail.
Is There a Map in Marauders?
The unfortunate answer to this question is that there isn’t a map in Marauders for players to use. Instead, you have to rely on your own memory if you don’t want to get lost. I’ve seen a couple of comments in the community that areas may be partially procedurally generated, but I can’t say for sure. In my experience, this doesn’t seem to be the case but I could be wrong.
If they are partially procedurally generated, this would mean certain parts are randomly put together making it difficult for map creators. However, at the time of publishing this guide, it’s still a little early into the Steam Early Access launch. We may eventually see players try to put together maps similar to Escape from Tarkov.
In the meantime, you’ll have to rely on learning each raid map and trying to remember them by playing enough. I always recommend looking for landmarks or unique areas so you can remember them more easily. Even if it’s something small as a temporary reminder of where your airlock is in Marauders. I’ve even used dead enemies on the floor to remind myself of where I am.
With that said, there are plenty of unique rooms to help you learn each map. Even though it can still be difficult when you’re first starting out and everything looks the same. This is one of my qualms with trying to find certain areas for contract missions, but fortunately, there are decent videos around. Such as where the half-track bike is for the Repo Man mission. This is the second mission once you’re done scrapping items for the first one.
That’s all there is to this quick Marauders guide on if there is a map or not. As you now know, there sadly isn’t, making it a bit difficult to learn. If you’re playing for the first time, I recommend searching the area around your airlock and then escaping afterward. Otherwise, you can try the opposite strategy as well. Try going in with barely any gear and then completely lose track of where you are. See if you can learn as much as possible.
