Staying alive in Cult of the Lamb can be difficult if you’re not sure how to get health. Whether or not you’re looking for ways to increase your max health or to heal up after getting hurt. Regardless of the difficulty, you’re playing on you’re going to need some extra health in this roguelite.
The last thing you want after losing a Crusade run in Cult of the Lamb is to also lose some of the resources you’ve gathered. Especially when you’re just starting out and need every piece of Lumber and Stone you can get. And on top of that, your followers will lose faith in you if you keep struggling.
How to Get Health in Cult of the Lamb
Take Advantage of Meta Progression From Sermons
There are a few tricks to getting more health so you can stay alive and take a beating. While certain ones require making a little progress and unlocking Divine Inspirations, others are relatively early on. Right from the start, you’ll want to preach Sermons daily to your following from the temple. This is one of the major forms of meta progression in Cult of the Lamb.
For each Sermon you preach daily, you’ll gain some experience toward better weapons, new Curse abilities, and extra health. As shown in the above screenshot, you can unlock Hearts of the Faithful for half of a heart. While that may not sound like much, you can take another hit now.
How to Get Spirit Hearts For Temporary Health
Spirit Hearts are a different type of health that you can’t restore during Crusade runs. Even though you can’t get red hearts to fill them back in, these blue hearts are better because you can stack them on top of missing health. So if you have two out of three red hearts and one Spirit Heart, you can still get that third red heart back.
If you’re still early into your playthrough, you’ll get Spirit Hearts sporadically. They can drop from chests after clearing a room, certain objects in shops, or appear in health rooms. These special rooms are marked by a heart on the map when choosing where to go. But, there are a couple of guaranteed tricks as well.
Certain Tarot Cards will give you Spirit Hearts or even Diseased Hearts that damage enemies upon breaking. Also, you can take advantage of the Demonic Summoning Circle building to start with Spirit Hearts. This is a way to temporarily convert your followers into demon spirits.
Similar to the previous section on Sermons, you can unlock upgrades in the Crown section. The Hunger perk lets you eat a meal to receive one full Spirit Heart. While the Darkness Within perk provides a Diseased heart at the start of each run as well. Combine both perks and you’ve already got two extra hearts.
How to Heal in Cult of the Lamb
If you’re more interested in learning how to get health back, there are a couple of ways. Similar to Spirit Hearts, you can get red hearts from chests, breaking certain objects, and health rooms. They’re more common than Spirit Hearts, even though the RNG can feel against you at times.
With that said, my favorite way to get health back during a run is also via the Demonic Summoning Circle building. While one demon spirit will give you a Spirit Heart to start with, a different one will routinely bring you health. This can be a gamechanger if you’re taking a lot of hits. Especially if you’re learning a new area or fighting a tough boss.
That’s all there is to this guide on how to get health in Cult of the Lamb. Depending on what difficulty you pick, you may find this guide more useful than others. It helps to know the different methods for getting as many hearts as possible.
