If you’re playing Mortal Shell and not sure why you can’t unlock a bunch of locked chests in Fallgrim, I’ve got a guide for you. Fortunately, it’s nothing too complicated and there’s a quick answer.
How to Unlock Chests in Mortal Shell
When you first enter the swamp-like area known as Fallgrim, you might wander into mini-statues/busts that say they’re locked chests. In order to open these, you’ll need to progress far enough to get your first Sacred Gland. You can get them from defeating certain bosses in Mortal Shell like Imrod, the Unrepentant. Once you return to Fallgrim with a Sacred Gland, you’ll notice the area is filled with fog and new enemies.
Upon returning, every locked chest will now be glowing and already unlocked. Take advantage of this to get some easy items and potentially glimpses for upgrading your shells. For more information on the different types of shells in the game, take a look at our guide here.
Breaking Branches and Icicles To Reach Chests
Shiny dots on the floor that shimmer always represent an item or chest you can interact with. Sometimes you may notice an item or chest lurking behind branches on the floor or icicles like in the screenshot above. You can simply break these with normal attacks to get to whatever is hiding behind.
I hope this simple and short guide answers your question on how to unlock chests in Mortal Shell. If you have any other questions, be sure to ask in the comments below. While you’re here, be sure to check out our best tips and tricks for Mortal Shell here.
